Neighborhood Healthcare, a regional Federally Qualified Health Center providing a wide range of services, today announced that it received a grant of $250,000 from the Grossmont Healthcare District.
The funding will go toward equipment purchases for the new Lakeside health center, which will double the size of the current facility when it opens later this year.
“The current facility serves more than 9,000 individuals, but the need in the area is far greater,” said Edgar Bulloch, MD, Associate Chief Medical Officer at Neighborhood. “Over 90 percent of Lakeside’s patients live below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level and face barriers to the resources they need to live happy, healthy lives. This new health center will enable us to expand access to quality, compassionate, whole-person care for more people, regardless of circumstances. We’re grateful for Grossmont Health District’s support of the Lakeside community through our efforts.”
Neighborhood Healthcare opened the current Lakeside facility more than 30 years ago. Its on-site medical team consists of board-certified specialists who provide pediatrics, internal medicine, preventive medicine, specialty care, and dental services. To ensure access for all, Neighborhood Healthcare accepts Medi-Cal and Medicareand offers programs and resources that address the barriers individuals with low incomes face, including enrollment in Medi-Cal, Covered California, and CalFresh, as well as social service referrals.
“Neighborhood Healthcare is an integral part of our collaborative work to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Amy Abrams, MSW/MPH, MLIS, Chief Community Health Officer of the Grossmont Healthcare District. “We do so through strategic investments, partnerships, and programs that expand access to quality health care, promote wellness, and elevate health education and healthcare workforce training. Neighborhood Healthcare plays a vital role in this effort for the region.”
The Lakeside expansion plans are part of a broader effort by the non-profit to expand its services throughout San Diego, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. Neighborhood Healthcare is conducting a $10 million capital campaign to help facilitate this initiative.
