Poway Community Foundation donates $5K to Neighborhood Healthcare

Funds will benefit outreach programs for the Gold Family Health Center in Poway.

The Poway Community Foundation donated $5,000 to Neighborhood Healthcare in support of its health care services, including Medi-Cal and CalFresh.

Those who will benefit most from the grant are customers of Neighborhood Healthcare’s Gold Family Health Center, at 13010 Poway Road. The health center offers primary care, pediatrics, and behavioral health services to everyone regardless of their circumstances, said Neighborhood Healthcare spokesperson David Oates.

The grant will help provide Medi-Cal, CalFresh, and Covered California enrollment services to ensure access to care for Poway residents, Oates said.

Escondido-based Neighborhood Healthcare has 30 facilities throughout San Diego and Riverside counties.

The services in Poway are being enhanced with a $5,000 matching grant from the Gold family, Oates said.

“The Gold family has matched the funds with an additional $5,000 to ensure more Poway families receive the care they need to live happy, healthy lives,” he said.

Ginger Couvrette, co-chair of the Poway Community Foundation, said the foundation selected Neighborhood Healthcare for one of its grants to help fund the organization’s community outreach efforts.

People in need of health services may need information about Neighborhood Healthcare’s services, affordability, and qualifications, she said.

“We’re funding that outreach so people are able to get the services they need,” said Couvrette, noting that the Gold Family Health Center primarily serves a low-income population.

This is the Poway Community Foundation’s second year of providing grants to 501(c)3 nonprofits that serve the Poway community. This second round of funding provided $108,000 in grants to 16 nonprofits out of 25 nonprofits that applied, Couvrette said. Recipients provide a range of services such as senior activities, arts and music programs, and special needs care, she added.

The foundation’s next big fundraiser will be Brews & Boots on Aug. 15. The event includes beer and wine, music, food, and train rides at Old Poway Park. Sponsorships are available online at PowayCommunityFoundation.org.
