Helping Babies and Kids Get a Great Start in Life

Having a baby and caring for a newborn is a time when a woman looks for compassionate care and answers to all her questions. At Neighborhood, our patients tell us they are grateful for compassionate doctors and reassurance every step of the way. Every year, we help 1,800 babies and kids get a great start in life.

Trinity Storm Nichols

Trinity Storm Nichols was born health and was doing just fine but when she had her newborn checkup there was a concern with one of her eyes. Neighborhood’s Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Cathy Mitchell had not seen anything like this in her 22 years working with babies and children at Neighborhood Healthcare. Taking no chances, Cathy got baby Trinity in to see a specialist at Rady Children’s Hospital right away.

“We were thinking that we were going to have some kind of major problem or it’s going to be something to do with her brain,” said Mark Nichols, Trinity’s dad.

For Mark and Mom Chrissy it was a long agonizing drive from Escondido. Thankfully it turned out to be a rare case of an underdeveloped eye muscle that is being successfully treated.

“We’re so grateful she’s OK. Neighborhood Healthcare is great. They’re awesome. It just makes you feel a lot better when you know that you are not in it alone and they are there to help right away,” said Mark Nichols.

Mathew Franco

Mathew Franco was born with arteries malformed in his heart. Often babies don’t recover from this defect. Thankfully, Neighborhood’s pediatrician Dr. Bertha Tsai-Tulagan diagnosed the problem and he was referred to Rady Children’s Hospital. He had open heart surgery, and today Mathew is a healthy, active toddler. Mathew’s mother, Thabata and father, John, say if it wasn’t for Neighborhood, they wouldn’t have their son today.

Noah Hernandez

As an infant, Noah Hernandez experienced health problems that gave his parents quite a scare. At just a few months old he was diagnosed with asthma. Fortunately, Neighborhood introduced Noah’s family to an action plan to manage his condition. Noah was provided with necessary medication and education about staying health. Today, Noah’s symptoms are controlled, and he can run and play without concern. His mother thanks Neighborhood for her son’s health future!
