Neighborhood Gets Students Back to Playing Sports

Neighborhood staff and volunteers are motivated by a life of service, focused on removing obstacles to assist others in achieving their goals. So, when student athletes in high schools across San Diego County were in desperate need of weekly COVID testing to get back to playing sports, Neighborhood stepped in to make it happen.

Between March 2021 and the end of the school year in May 2021, Neighborhood provided weekly COVID testing for student athletes and coaches across four school districts in San Diego County: Escondido Union High School District, Poway Unified High School District, Valley Center-Pauma Unified High School District, and Fallbrook Union High School District. Over 11,075 tests were conducted within this three month timeframe!

Dave LeMaster, Executive Director of Learning Support Services with the Poway Unified School District shares his thanks by saying, To say that I am appreciative of your help these past few months is an understatement.  I had no idea how we were going to get our student athletes tested so they could play.  When I got the call from Jeff that Monday morning, I was so relieved, yet I didn’t know how it was going to work. We tested that week at Mt. Carmel and as soon as I saw your team in action, I knew our kids were in the best hands.”

Volunteers across the County came alongside to help with weekly testing several days a week! Thank you to everyone who volunteered with us, and who continue to volunteer with us. This monumental effort has only been made possible by the volunteers who donated their time and talent on campus each week.
