Get Tested!

What is my urine being tested for?

The urine sample will be sent to LabCorp for chlamydia and gonorrhea testing.

What is Chlamydia and Gonorrhea?

They are common Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) that can cause infection in sexually active people. If left untreated, it can lead to serious health problems. Chlamydia can cause permanent damage to a woman’s reproductive system. This can make it difficult or impossible to get pregnant later. Chlamydia may also increase your chances of contracting or spreading HIV. Gonorrhea can spread into the uterus or fallopian tubes and cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). In men, gonorrhea may be complicated by epididymitis.

Why am I being screened?

Sexually active people younger than 24 years old can get STDs through unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are common STDs, especially among young people. Young people are at high risk for many reasons, including behavioral, biological, and cultural reasons. Many don’t always use protection like condoms. Many may have multiple partners. These types of circumstances can increase the risk of contracting STDs.

If you are sexually active, have a confidential and honest talk with your healthcare provider today. Your healthcare provider can offer additional education and resources.
