Behavioral Health APTA

Behavioral Health Track .

Key Benefits:

Addiction Medicine
Many patients with mental health conditions also struggle with co-occurring substance use disorders. Through dedicated shadowing experiences with our Addiction Medicine specialists, APPs in the APTA program gain a deeper understanding of addiction, evidence-based interventions, and appropriate referral pathways. Participants will also engage directly with our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program and may elect to develop hands-on skills in MAT management.

Geriatric Psychiatry
Neighborhood’s Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is designed to provide comprehensive medical, social, and in-home services exclusively for seniors. During their clinical rotations, APPs will learn the unique considerations of caring for older adults and build confidence in delivering compassionate, tailored psychiatric care to this growing population.

Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
Because most psychiatric conditions emerge during childhood or adolescence, early intervention is crucial. APPs in the program will rotate with experienced child psychiatrists to gain insight into developmental factors, diagnostic nuances, and age-appropriate treatment approaches. These rotations help prepare APPs to support youth and their families with skill and sensitivity.

Primary Care Integration
Neighborhood’s innovative care-team model promotes close collaboration between psychiatric providers and primary care clinicians. Since many medical conditions can mimic or contribute to psychiatric symptoms—and psychotropic medications can influence physical health—it is essential for APPs to develop strong assessment skills. Through rotations with primary care providers, APPs broaden their differential diagnoses, refine their understanding of medical contributors to psychiatric concerns, and learn when to order additional diagnostics such as lab work or imaging.

Virtual Clinician Consultation Line .

APTA has supported the development of an added layer of real-time clinical support designed to strengthen clinical decision-making, boost provider confidence, and enhance patient safety during complex encounters. This resource offers immediate access to expert consultation, helping clinicians navigate challenging cases, confirm treatment plans, and ensure adherence to best practices. By leveraging this service, providers can reduce uncertainty, improve care quality, and deliver timely, evidence-based interventions that positively impact patient outcomes.

Our virtual clinician consultation line provides mid-level providers with immediate access to trusted clinical expertise, strengthening decision-making and elevating the overall care experience. By offering real-time reassurance and support, this service empowers providers to navigate complex situations with greater confidence and clarity. It also plays a meaningful role in reducing stress and easing the burden that often contributes to burnout. With this dependable resource at their fingertips, providers can focus on what matters most—delivering safe, high-quality care while feeling supported every step of the way.

Empowering Providers, Elevating Care, Better Together .

Both academies provide structured, hands-on learning that accelerates acclimation, strengthens clinical decision-making, and fosters effective teamwork—ultimately improving patient outcomes and provider confidence.
