Neighborhood Healthcare seeks participants for COPD drug study

Neighborhood Healthcare, a regional Federally Qualified Health Center providing a wide range of medical, dental, and behavioral health services, seeks participants for a drug study related to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

The community health organization’s Institute of Health arm needs candidates for a clinical research initiative from GlaxoSmithKline.

“COPD is a lung disease that makes it hard to breathe. Symptoms include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. Its main causes are smoking, long-term exposure to harmful chemicals, and air pollution,” said Maria Ayala, Supervisor of Clinical Trials Operations at Neighborhood Healthcare. “We seek to ensure that the communities we serve receive the appropriate representation in the research that will evaluate an investigational drug as an add-on treatment for the disease.”

To qualify for the study, individuals must:

  • Be 40-75 years old.
  • Have a moderate to severe COPD diagnosis.
Interested participants can learn more by contacting Ayala at [email protected] or 760-737-6984.
